Trimming & Maintaining Hedges
Everything you need to know....

Informal Hedges
When it comes to hedges we like it keep it fairly simple.
Informal hedges are deciduous(losing leaf in Autumn), or Evergreen (green year round), should be trimmed once yearly.
Don't get too hung up on when you trim you hedges, however, it is important to note that nesting birds cannot be disturbed.
They typically nest between March and August.

Formal Hedges....
When it comes to formal hedges, both discidusous and evergreen, you may want to consider trimmming twice a year.
This will maintain a tight, dense and neat shape.

Coniferous Hedges Warning...
Coniferous hedges are where it differs. Yew Trees being an exception.
Trimming hard enough to expose brown is permanent, will not recover, and is very unsightly.
It is important to be cautious or to seek out a professional to avoid permanent damage.
Trimming twice per year and cautious of over trimming in advised.

Reducing Hedge Height...
If your hedge have become too tall or are blocking light the height can be reduced.
With coniferous hedges, this is irreversible, however, a well kept coniferous can be great privacy and noise reduction.
With this in mind, should you decide to reduce your coniferous hedge to around 8ft, maintain it well. This will be a real asset to your outdoor space.
